Academics

We have 2 classes per grade, with a maximum of 24 students per class.

Welcome to Greenwood Bay College, where academic excellence meets international standards. Our high school programme is designed to prepare students for success on a global scale.

At the end of Grade 10, students undertake the prestigious IGCSE (International General Certificate of Secondary Education) exams. These exams are set and marked by Cambridge University in England, offering an internationally recognized benchmark of achievement. Similarly, at the end of Grade 12, students complete the A level exams, further showcasing their academic prowess.

The Cambridge curriculum has a stellar reputation worldwide for its rigor and comprehensive preparation. South African universities acknowledge the Cambridge system's superiority, awarding higher points for equivalent passes compared to the National Senior Certificate.

To support our students' academic journey, required textbooks are sourced by the school and provided to students at cost. External examination fees may vary depending on the subject and current exchange rate.

In our high school timetable, students in Grade 8 explore a diverse range of subjects, including Afrikaans, Art, English, Mathematics, Business Studies, Information and Communication Technology, Biology, Physical Science (chemistry and physics), and Social Science (geography and history). This comprehensive approach allows students to gain maximum exposure to various syllabi requirements.

Upon completing Grade 8, students choose six subjects to pursue at the IGCSE level during Grades 9 and 10. Afrikaans, English, and Mathematics are compulsory subjects at this level. Global perspectives is the 7th subject they will engage in.

In Grade 11, students further refine their academic path by selecting four subjects from the previous list to pursue at the AS/A level. They then write their A Level exams at the culmination of Grade 12.

Beyond academics, Greenwood Bay College offers a vibrant array of cultural activities and clubs, including Chess, Debating, Drama, Art, Environmental, General Knowledge, and Music. These clubs provide students with opportunities to explore their interests, develop new skills, and engage in enriching extracurricular experiences.

Sports on offer in the high school include soccer, netball, hockey, MTB, Cross Country, athletics, cricket, tennis and swimming.

Join us at Greenwood Bay College High School, where we empower students to excel academically, embrace diversity, and thrive in a dynamic learning environment.
